2006 Tournament Recap

April 10, 2006, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. - JB Holmes, Darius Rucker and Dan Marino led their six-person team to the 2006 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament Monday with the six-person team shooting a 18-under-par to grab the title. Two University of South Carolina Gamecocks, former USC golfer and current Nationwide Tour star Kyle Thompson and current head football coach Steve Spurrier lead their team to a second-place finish with a score of 17 under par. Tom Kite and Jason Mraz's team captured third place with a 16-under finish.

Holmes is no stranger to victory at Hootie & the Blowfish tournaments as the former University of Kentucky golfer led his team to the 2005 Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate Golf Tournament title with his winning putt on the 18th green.

The Tournament sold all 6,000 tickets as golf fans packed The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf to see their favorite celebrities, athletes and musicians compete in the 12th annual Monday After the Masters Tournament in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Golf legend Arnold Palmer; PGA TOUR players John Daly, Tom Kite, Rich Beem, JB Holmes, Lee Elder, Woody Austin, Ricky Barnes, Brian Bateman, Sean Fister, Brian Gay, Mark Lye, Troy Matteson, Jim McGovern, David Mobley, Pat Perez, Tim Petrovic, D.A. Points, Larry Rinker, Lee Rinker, John Rollins, Charlie Rymer, Mike Sposa, Kyle Thompson, D.J. The 2006 Monday After the Masters has turned out to be the most successful one in the history of the tournament and we hope to break the 2005 record of $425,000 in donations."

The 2006 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament kicked off Sunday night with a Live Auction and Pairings Party at the House of Blues. Sunday's Live Auction raised $406,000 for the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and The Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation, which support the educational needs of children in South Carolina.

One of the most popular items up for bid at Sunday night's Auction was the band's first touring van, a 1993 Ford Econoline Conversion Van Explore. The van was customized by West Coast Customs, the automotive restyling center that handled the conversions on MTV's "Pimp My Ride," and was auctioned off for $160,000 to John Daly.

Hosted for the fourth year by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday and Barefoot Resort, the Monday After the Masters is widely considered as one of the most popular celebrity pro-ams in the country and attracts thousands of people who enjoy the music of the two-time Grammy award winners as well as the friendly competition between the band and their celebrity and PGA professional friends. Over the past 11 years, the tournament has donated more than $3 million to the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation, which supports the educational needs of South Carolina.
