2004 Tournament Recap
KRIS COX AND LAMAR THOMAS WIN RAIN-SHORTENED 10TH ANNIVERSARY HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH MONDAY AFTER THE MASTERS CELEBRITY PRO-AM IN MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
April 12, 2004, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The team of PGA Tour player Kris Cox and National Football League standout Lamar Thomas and Darwin Partners Tom Grant and Christian Wylde shot a nine under par 27 to win the rain-shortened 10th anniversary Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am at Barefoot Resort & Golf’s Dye Club in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Monday. The tournament was called after 9 holes due inclement weather.
“We would love to have finished the tournament but the safety of our spectators and participants is our top priority,” said Paul Graham, the Hootie & The Blowfish Celebrity Pro-Am tournament director. “Given the weather conditions, we are delighted with turnout and continued support of the Myrtle Beach community.”
In its first nine years the tournament has raised nearly $2 million for charity, including a record $365,000 in 2003, the event’s first year in Myrtle Beach. The Monday After The Masters has helped improve the lives of countless kids in South Carolina through its donations to the Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation, which works to improve education in the state, and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation.
The Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation is designed to create an endowment that benefits children in South Carolina through education and supports school music programs nationwide.
Proceeds from the Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am have led to the creation of four “Junior Golf Lands” across the state, with locations in Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach and Columbia, home of two facilities. The Junior Golf Lands are home to Hootie Huts, which feature common areas for junior golfers and room for rules and instructional seminars. The Hootie Hut is a junior golfer’s “clubhouse,” a place to make them feel comfortable in their new golf surroundings. The facility is used for outdoor instruction, organization, and management of Junior Golf Land programs.
